How Tender Larch Began

Tender Larch was founded in 2019 by a family who had spent years caring for aging relatives in Chiang Mai. They noticed that many elderly people became withdrawn when moved to large institutional settings, losing connection to the natural world and the pace of life they had known for decades.

When they discovered a small property in Mae Rim, surrounded by fruit orchards and vegetable gardens, they recognized an opportunity to create something different. The land offered shade from mature trees, walking paths through planted rows, and a view toward the mountains. It felt like a place where people could rest and recover their sense of calm.

The residence was designed to feel like a countryside home rather than a facility. Rooms have windows overlooking the orchard. Meals are prepared in a home kitchen. Staff work in small teams so they can know each resident by name and preference. The daily rhythm follows what the land is doing, whether that is harvesting mangoes in April or planting herbs in November.

We believe that care for elderly individuals should honor their dignity, allow them to move through the day at their own pace, and keep them connected to life around them. The orchard setting is not decoration — it is part of the care itself, providing beauty, seasonal change, fresh air, and a living landscape that invites quiet observation.

Since opening, Tender Larch has welcomed residents from Thailand and abroad. Families tell us their loved ones seem more settled here, more engaged with the present moment, and more like themselves. We think this comes from the combination of respectful daily support and a natural environment that restores rather than overwhelms.

Personalized Care Plans

Each resident has an individualized care plan developed with input from the resident and family. Plans are reviewed regularly and adjusted as needs change.

Safety and Wellbeing

The residence is designed with safety features such as support rails, non-slip flooring, and accessible pathways. Staff are trained in fall prevention and emergency response.

Meals are prepared fresh daily using ingredients from the garden and local markets. We accommodate dietary restrictions, preferences, and nutritional needs with guidance from families.

Family Communication

We maintain open communication with families through regular updates, phone calls, and in-person meetings. Family involvement is welcomed and encouraged.

What Guides Our Work

Connection to Nature Supports Wellbeing

We have seen how access to gardens, trees, and natural light affects mood, sleep, and overall vitality in elderly residents. The orchard setting is central to our care philosophy.

A Slower Pace Allows for Dignity

Rushing through meals, bathing, or dressing can feel demeaning. We structure the day to allow time for each person to move at their own speed, maintaining control over their routines.

Small Settings Foster Real Relationships

In a small residence, staff can know each person's history, preferences, and personality. This knowledge allows for care that feels personal rather than procedural.

Families Are Essential Partners

We view families as collaborators in care. Their knowledge of their loved one's life, habits, and needs is invaluable. We welcome their presence and input.
